Young Attack by Stroke
As reported by the BBC, the rate of ischemic stroke increased by 31% in the age of 5-14 years.
There is an increase of 30% for people aged 15 to 34 and 37% in patients between the ages of 35 and 44. In all age groups the increase was greater in men than in women.
Figures for hemorrhagic stroke showed a decline, except for the age group of five to 14 years. Over half of 35-44 years of age is also having an ischemic stroke hypertension.
Dr. Lorna Layward, from the Stroke Association in the UK, said people usually associate strokes with a parent, but a quarter of all strokes occur in people of working age, and approximately 400 children have a stroke each year in England.
"We know that high blood pressure is the greatest risk factor for stroke, along with other factors such as obesity, diabetes diet, poor and smoking," he said.
This study, said Layward, stressed the need for people to realize that a stroke can affect younger people, and everyone, regardless of age. It is therefore necessary to check blood pressure awareness and running a healthy lifestyle.
